XTERRA Sardegna

XTERRA – Sardinia, Villasimius, Italy 12.10. 2024
The last race of the season in Sardinia.
I had already finished the “mandatory” racing season. So it was time to choose any race for the end of the season and thus extend it a little bit before the “long” winter preparation. I had several options where to end the season. Sardinia seemed like a good choice. I am glad that I could participate in Xterra and also try something different than a classic road triathlon. I also chose one of the hardest races in the Xterra series. I have to say that it was quite an adventure in places.
As one of the few competitors, I completed the swimming part, which was in two circuits, without a wetsuit. I swam in the first half of the starting field, with a small gap behind the leading group.
The cycling part was a challenge for me. Mountain biking is a different discipline after all, and the demanding course bothered me a lot. Part of the running and cycling route was over a sandy beach, which was very technically and of course physically demanding.
After switching to running I felt good and had the fastest running time on a very adventurous course. In the end it was enough for me to finish 5th overall and 2nd in the 20-24 age group. And a slot for the 2025 World Championships in Molveno, Italy.
